In-resort ski schools

We highly recommend that you book your ski lessons well in advance to avoid the disappointment of not securing a lesson with an instructor - particularly if staying over half term, Christmas, New Year and Easter holidays.

Most ski schools require a card payment in advance to secure your booking. You may need to call the ski school to give your credit card details - all of them speak English.

When choosing ski schools for children, you need to take into consideration if your children have never skied before or are very young (4-6 years old), they may only be up for a lesson in the morning or afternoon, with the remainder of the time dedicated to playing on the nursery slopes or having a childcare option to look after them whilst you’re out skiing for the day.

We would highly recommend Avoriaz Alpine Ski School, Freedom2Ski (Avoriaz) and BASS (Morzine) for ski lessons. They offer lessons to small groups and their instructors speak good English. They are a little bit more expensive than the standard French ski schools, however the money you pay is well-spent on the experience and enjoyment you or your children will get out of the lessons.

If you are looking for value for money or all-day care at a ski school for young children, then the French ESF ski school offers a club called Piou Piou which acts like a crèche. Club Piou Piou offers the children lessons in the morning, with the additional option to be fed and then cared for in a crèche facility. ESF’s Club Piou Piou offers excellent value-for-money packages where a ski pass is included in the cost of the lessons.
